Kumihimo plate
Topic: Kumihimo
Did my first braid on a kumihimo plate the last 2 nights.  I really like it.  Still learning but my 10 strand sample was cool and easy.  I want to do the same braid with 24 strands next.  I also played around inserting some beads. But picked too big of beads. My goal is to learn how to do zigzag braids like the one shown here.    The latest book by Makiko Tada shows some great items utilizing this.  Linda

Kumihimo--getting back to
Mood:  happy
Topic: Kumihimo
This braid is a 16 strand braid I made to match my kitchen colors on my wood marudai.  I have SO many fiber interests it is crazy. I’m going to be teaching kumihimo at the Snake River Fiber Fair in Idaho Falls, Idaho http://www.srfiberarts.org/Snake-River-Fiber-Fair.html  I have to get all of my kits ready and also start/or finish some kumihimo projects to show off.  I have a new beaded bookmark idea using my new square kumihimo foam pad.  I have a wood maruidai, but it is amazing how often I turn back to my foam disks for quicky arm chair projects.  One of the reasons is that I still haven’t perfected how to sit and my marudai and braid for a long time without getting a sore back or arms.  I focused on Roderick Owens video the other day to try to improve this but not still totally comfortable with my technique. Since I’m teaching kumihimo on foam disks at Snake River, this isn’t critical but I’m bringing 4 marudai’s for the class for people to use and want to feel more proficient.    Linda
